Playing my cards right.

April 25th, 2006

So today my iPod died. It was on the nose 18mo old. I do believe this is exactly the date everyone else has said they typically dope out on you.

Keep in mind I have no right to be mad. I actually got this thing for free. Actually I got the 20Gig for free and I forked out the $70 to upgrade it to the 40 before I opened the box. Thanks again FreeiPods.com. Apparently somewhere amidst my scamming as well as being one of the fortunate early adopters of the free ipod scam, I was smart enough to purchase the extended warranty. At least according to Apple I did. (I don’t remember).

So off to the store, and a short 15 minutes later (genius guy needed to fill out a mighty amount of paperwork). I now have a brand new 40Gig iPod. I only wish they had upgraded, but touche I still get a new one with another 18mo to live. I might even buy an extended/extended warranty just to cover my ass again.

I certainly can smell the faint smell of pipe tobacco. Praise Dobbs!!

Now we finally might have it. The years of waiting may finally be over Strangers with Candy the movie is finally about to hit the theaters. Especially now that they apparently finally have a distributor.

I’m still waiting for the second Kids in the Hall film to come out. Keep your fingers crossed.

The truth about FileNet - A review

April 17th, 2006

Do a google search for ‘FileNet Reviews’ and you quickly discover that information about their systems, I mean real information is more than just anemic. Why is it that this company who, as all the press statements I’ve found about them, state: “Established in 1982, FileNet practically invented the field of Enterprise Office Document Imaging Systems.” If you’ve been searching for information I’m sure you’ve seen this regurgitated garbage on more than a few websites.

But this is 2006, why in the hell is there no more information out on the Net about a company which is apparently so damn monolithic and powerful. Well useful information at least. In comparison if you do a search for Oracle you will find MILLIONS of useful hits on the topic of how their product works, tips on how to use, when it’s a good solution for you, etc.. But FileNet seems to be lacking all of these things.

It’s as if there is some sort of global conspiracy to keep this information out of your hands, either that or all the people running this fucking system have no idea how to setup a website using their Web Content Management System (or any other system for that matter).

Another One Bites the Dust

April 2nd, 2006

Okay, so I’ve already eliminated Airtran from the list of airlines I will ever fly with again but after today I have another one to add to the list. American Airlines. So I’ve been sitting here at O’hare for something like 5 hours now. As I’ve just found out my technical status is a ‘missed connection’, whatever the fuck that really is supposed to mean. All I know is that I made it to Laguardia an hour and fifteen minutes BEFORE my flight. Though my alcohol induced haze I know I breifly caught some mention about ’standby’ when I checked in of course it didn’t register until I made it back here in Chicago.

The details still don’t make sense but apparently I was moved into ’standby’ status on the flight I paid for over three weeks ago. Because American Airlines apparently over sold their flight (WTF?) it was full and they bumped me from my own damn flight. After being dicked around and having walked across O’hare more than once, I finally found a competent employee (gasp). She attempted to explain that somewhere along the line I got fucked. Well, duh. So after being bumped from two other flights I’m still sitting here waiting for a flight to leave for Minneapolis that isn’t oversold so I can have a seat.

There really are two things that greatly piss me off about this situation. First, how the fuck do you oversell a flight? People pay money up front so they have a reserved seat. Are people just in the habit of dishing out $300-800 and ditching their flight? Apparently this must happen so frequently that AA has incorporated it into their business model. I understand how someone might oversell candy bars or computers or something where they simply can’t keep up with demand. A plane, however, has a fixed number of seats which are reserved which people paid for in advance. Secondly, it completely ruins plans I had to hang out with a friend and that just makes me sad. I was really looking forward to it all day and now it’s completely out the window. Well shit.

I guess I’ll still wait and see if I ever get back. Of course the irony of this is that now that I mentioned the airlines fucking name Google Ads will probably post an ad for them on the site. Travelling home just hasn’t been my luck lately, I think next time I’ll just stay.
