Samsung T509 Unlocking and other Codes
August 17th, 2006Well still waiting for my laptop to be fixed so I never got around to posting my items from SIGGRAPH. In the interrum I’ll share all that I’ve discovered about the T509.
Lets start at the beginning. How to unlock the T509 and let you roam free in the world using any SIM card you wish.
- *7465625*638*00000000*00000000#
- #7465625*638*00000000#
- *#7465625#
Now lets go over what these mean, the first code selects the network lock, the second code deactivates the lock and the final code displays the lock status and should inform you that all of your locks are currently undone.
So now you are free to roam about the world using any SIM card you choose. Of course some services like T-Zones or equivalent will not allow you to use them once your phone has been unlocked. These may be circumvented simply by changing some settings on your phone or re-activating the network lock.
I’ve also found this code to be useful:
- *#8999*8378#
This is the hardware test mode which allows you to verify speaker and microphone functionality, as well as the camera, etc. Not to mention there also is this very handy feature which allows you to increase the speaker volume on your phone. So for those of you complaining that the t509 is too quite, consider this your solution. Of course I’m not going to tell you what settings you should change it to because I haven’t played with it myself, the onerous is on you to do it yourself or do a google search to find someone who has.
I have verified that all of these codes do in fact work on the t509 at least with whichever software revision I have on my phone. I’ll look that up. I also have a whole slew of other codes but which I have not yet tested, I’ll see if I have time this weekend to evaluate them and update this post.
Lastly I’ll cover (until I verify a few codes) how to create your own ringtones for transfer to the phone via BlueTooth. Unfortunately it requires you to ‘buy’ a piece of software. Quicktime Pro to be exact. After installation of QTPro you simply open the MP3 sample you would like to use and follow these instructions:
- File-> Export
- Export: Movie to 3G
- Then click the Options button
- Below the File Format there should be a box which contains several formats, choose Audio
- Audio Format: AAC LC (Music)
- Choose the rest of your settings as you wish (Mono is all the phone can handle BTW)
- Click OK
- Save the file
After that transfer the 3gp file over to your phone using BlueTooth and you will finally have the option to set the ringer as a ringtone.
Enjoy the phone.

I am anxious to see the “whole slew”….
Also, you can make ringtones without having to buy anything. You can get the SMAF converter here http://smaf-yamaha.com/tools/dl.php?ocid=wscma2s210 for free. Convert the clip of whatever you want for a ringtone, simply rename the file to whatever.MID and email it to your phone.
(granted the quality of ringtone may not be absolutly perfect..but..its a phone… not a Bose)
Thanx again for taking time to write this article, very insightful and useful info.

Hey, what do you know, we got the same phone =) Word, free phones rock.
I posted some ringtones I made over at my website including a Thom Yorke one that I think you would dig. I also have outlined a method for creating ring tones without buying QT Pro.
Cheers =)

Also, do you have any idea if the phone mixes down stereo ring tones into mono automatically or should I mix them down in the encoding process?

Also, “the onerous is on you to do it yourself” … I think you meant “The Onus is on you”. Onerous is the adjective form of the noun Onus, which means “burden: an onerous or difficult concern;”.
Dude, email me your phone number will ya. I seem to have lost a few in the transisition to my new phone…

I’ve got a Samsung T509 and I’m running into the onerous problem with T-Mobile USA phones’ Java apps being locked down with no web access. That means that you can download an app such as Opera, Google Maps, or Gmail, but you cannot access the setting to allow the program to access your phone’s internet connection. Do you happen to know of a code that will turn off that Java protection?

Kevin,
I hear you. I never did find out a way to get around it, other than getting rid of my T509 which I did a while back. Good luck however and sorry I couldn’t help.
